South Korean performance artist Namgoong Ho stages a one-person street play “Robinson Crusom” at an intersection near Gwanghwamun, central Seoul on Wednesday, the day before the Hi Seoul Festival 2011 begins.

Beginning with the World Street Performance Parade at Seoul Square on Children’s Day on Thursday, the festival runs on through Buddha’s Birthday next Tuesday. Forty-seven arts groups from 11 countries will showcase some 300 nonverbal performances and exhibitions throughout the six-day festival held at Seoul, Cheonggye, Gwanghwamun Plaza and Yeouido Hangang Park.

In particular, the Spanish arts group Le Fura dels Baus, famous for performing at the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, are scheduled to present their nonverbal performance Rainbow Drops 8 p.m. opening night at Yeouido Hangang Park. The show’s highlight is a human net 30 meters above the ground composed of some 50 Korean volunteers who had been trained over 22 hours.
